Apple Watch with Mac OS Version That is 20 Years Old

Can you imagine Apple Mac OS wrist watch instead of the current Apple Watch OS? According to the latest Apple Watch news, this new ‘fruit’ device can truly run the very old operating system developed for Macs nearly 20 years ago.

Apple Watch Mac OS experiment proves that even devices that were released in 2015 can support operating system versions unveiled back in 1996. The current version of iWatch was running iOS 8.2 (special version) when it was launched in April 2015 and has later got a newer update of its own Watch OS 1.0.1. Apple is now working on Watch OS 2 development.

The 1996 Mac OS 7.5.5 was created years ago specifically for the PC-based Mac computers. Dev Nick Lee managed to run this old operating system on the Apple Watch through the Mini vMac macintosh emulator.

The video with the ‘fruit’ wearable running Mac OS 7.5.5 lasts for about 2-minutes:

Not all users can repeat the same experiment and there is most likely no sense in such a test. The old OS will not support modern Watch apps that are developed and work on Apple Watch OS 1.0.1 and special iOS 8.2 versions only.

At the same time the Watch is like a mini computer because it has no native applications and games and it needs to be tethered to the iPhone in order to work and not only serve as a wrist watch. Still, if you also install the 20-year-old Mac OS on it you will not be able to get any practical usage out of it. You will only see that modern technology is way more powerful than it was 20 years ago. At least OS developed back then can now run on a small device which was impossible in 1996 when such operating system required a real big PC only.
