Usually choosing iCloud for backing up your iDevice during its initial set up most apps you install will have their settings automatically backed up in iCloud. Actually it is really handy, especially when you restore your device from a backup as you won’t have to set up all your apps preferences again.

But what to do if you don’t want particular apps to automatically be backed up in iCloud? There can be different reasons and security is one of them. Also by handpicking what apps can backup to iCloud, you have more control over how much storage space can be used. So follow steps below.

How To Manually Select Apps That Can Be Backed Up In iCloud

Step 1: On your iOS 9.1 device, navigate to Settings > iCloud > Storage > Manage Storage.

Step 2: On the next screen you will be presented with the list of iOS devices linked to your Apple account (in case you own few iDevices). Pick the backup for the device you are currently using.

Step 3: Now you will see your device backup information. Among other details, there will be information about when the latest backup was made and what its size was. To start handpicking apps, click on Show All Apps towards the bottom of the screen.

Step 4: From there, start toggling off apps you don’t wish to backup in iCloud. Once you are done to manually select apps in iCloud backup on iOS 9 iPhone, you will be asked to confirm you indeed want to turn off backups and erase the data that is currently in iCloud.

Important note:

Apps are sorted by storage used, with the ones using the most storage at the top. iOS also notes how much data is backed up for each app, which gives you a good idea of how much space you can save.
