Instead of worrying about going over your data limit when searching for an alternate route during rush hour you can save offline maps with Google Maps on your iOS 9.2.1 iPhone and use that instead of being on the cellular network. It is also useful when you’re in the basement and you don’t get the cellular network.

Step 1. Download Google Maps from the App Store for free on your iOS 9 device and install it.

Step 2. Once done launch the Google Maps app and search for an area or location you want to save.

Step 3. Once you have that area entered, click on the menu icon (three horizontal lines) and pick Offline areas.

Step 4. In Offline Areas click on the plus (+) icon in the lower-right corner of the screen.

Step 5. You can pinch and zoom around to get the exact area you want. Don't forget the bigger map you save the more space it and time it will take to download.

Step 6. Click on Download option, enter the title of your new offline map and click Save. Your offline map will begin downloading to your iOS 9 device. That location will be saved on your device for 30 days. After that time Google will erase it from your device in an effort to save space.
