How To Send Live Photos As GIFs In iOS10 WhatsApp

Now you can send Live Photos as a GIFs in iOS 10 WhatsApp on your iPhone. According to report, this new feature has been added with the latest update for WhatsApp, which allows you to send and receive GIFs, share short videos and Live Photos as animated GIF images from iPhone 7 and iPhone 6s. Now WhatsApp allows users to search for GIFs from within the app. You can select GIFs you use frequently as favorites so that they’re easier to find later.


To send a Live Photo as an animated GIF file, simply select it from your Photos library and choose Select as GIF. You can also 3D Touch any Live Photo, then swipe up and choose Select as GIF, as shown on the screenshots below.

The recent update also lets WhatsApp natively convert Live Photos as GIFs. So you don't need to use any third-party client to do it. The only problem is that the feature is basically hidden under 3D Touch action.

How To Send Live Photos As GIFs In WhatsApp In iOS 10


Step 1: On your iOS 10 device from the “Photo and Video Library“, find the Live Photo you want to share.

Step 2: Now tap the photo using 3D Touch gesture. It will now popup. This will still show a still image, it won’t play the Live Photo.


Step 3: Swipe up, while holding the 3D Touch, and you’ll see 3 options appear: Select as A Photo, Select as GIF, Cancel. Tap on “Select as GIF“.

Step 4: You’ll now get to the familiar GIF editing page, the Live Photo will now start playing as a GIF.

Step 5. Lastly tap the “Send” button in the bottom-right corner to send Live Photos as a GIFs in iOS 10 WhatsApp on your device.

Remember, to send GIFs in iOS 10 WhatsApp, simply download the latest update under the 2.16.15 version from the App Store now. In case you don’t already used WhatsApp on your iPhone, simply follow the download link to install it.
