How To Set Up Multilingual Typing On iOS 10 iPhone

Here is useful guide on how to set up multilingual typing on iOS 10 iPhone and use this new feature. Apple has made a bunch of improvements to its QuickType keyboard for iOS 10, and one of those is support for multilingual typing. This feature allows users to type in multiple languages simultaneously and take advantage of the auto-correct function to receive appropriate suggestions without having to switch between different keyboards manually.

Before you proceed check multilingual typing requirements:
  • iPhone, iPad or iPod touch running iOS 10.0 or later firmware version
  • Appropriate Dictionary files downloaded through the Settings app
  • QuickType keyboards in selected languages

Now follow easy steps below to set up multilingual typing on your iOS 10 iPhone:

Step 1) On your iOS iPhone, navigate to Settings > General > Dictionary.

Step 2) Select any languages you’d like to use with the QuickType keyboard. iOS 10 will then download the dictionary for the language. This might take a while.

Step 3) Now navigate to Settings > General > Keyboards > Keyboards.

Step 4) Tap Add New Keyboard and add keyboards in the languages that were downloaded in the step 2.

Step 5) Lastly close out the Settings app.

Once your new keyboards are active, you’ll be able to use them all at the same time and you’ll receive appropriate next-word suggestions for each. Autocorrect will understand you’re typing in another language, too, so it won’t keep trying to correct you.

iOS 9 allowed us to use multiple languages for typing, too — but you had to switch between different keyboards manually in the same way you would switch to a third-party keyboard. Only then would autocorrect understand which language you’re using this time.
